📍 Oman
Bimmah Sinkhole lies in Hawiyat Najm Park near Dibab, just inland from Oman’s Gulf of Oman coast and the road linking Muscat with Sur. The broad limestone depression formed when the roof of an underground cavity collapsed, exposing clear water influenced by both groundwater and the nearby sea. Its Arabic name, Hawiyat Najm, means “the falling star,” reflecting a traditional explanation for the crater-like form. From the rim, pale, rugged rock frames an intensely turquoise pool; below, a staircase reveals the height and layered texture of the walls, while swimmers provide a vivid sense of scale.
