
Big Almaty Lake is a popular tourist attraction located just 30km south of the city of Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan. Situated in the middle of the Ile Alatau National Nature Park, the lake sits at an elevation of about 2,300 meters and is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and leisurely walks around the stunning glacial blue. The lake’s beauty is also famed for its spectacular views of surrounding snow-capped mountains, as well as its close proximity to the Shymbulak Ski Resort. Camping sites, restaurant, and attractions are also available. Tourists can hike around the lake or book a tour with a local guide and explore the alpine meadows and unique flora and fauna found around the lake.
