Situated near the Spanish Steps, Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History is a research center specializing in Italian art and architectural history, with a notable focus on the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Although primarily intended for scholars, the institute’s art library contains one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of books, photographs, and archival materials on Roman art. Access to general visitors may be limited, but architecture buffs will appreciate glimpses of the Palazzo Zuccari complex, featuring a striking façade by Federico Zuccari. Planning ahead is recommended, as visits may require permission or advance registration.
