Besalú Bridge, also known as the Romanesque Bridge, is a unique and symbolic bridge that crosses the Fluvià River in the town of Besalú in Catalonia, Spain. Built in the late 12th century, it is the oldest known segmental arch bridge in Catalonia. Spanning 44 meters, it has seven arches, each with a different elements. What sets it apart from other bridges is that instead of a single curved arch, the bridge is made of multiple smaller arches that come together to form a curve. Its stone walls are topped with round stone arches and bordered by a wooden walkway. By crossing the bridge, visitors have a pleasant view of the river, the village’s roofs and the surrounding countryside. Besalú Bridge is an important medieval landmark and one of the most photographed sites in the village. It is also a perfect spot for admiring the remains of this walled medieval village.
