Bergenhus is a coastal fortification located in the city of Bergen, Norway. It is the best-preserved medieval castle in Norway, and is a popular tourist attraction due to its historical significance. Located in the heart of old Bergen, the castle once served as the residence of the city's rulers for hundreds of years, and later as a county government centre. Its main features include a 15th century castle keep, a large harbour, and the Rosenkrantz Tower, the only remaining fortification of the old city wall. There is also the Bergenhus Fortress museum, located in the entrance, which focuses on the castle's history and its importance to Norway's military, political and commercial history. Visitors can explore the fortress by taking a guided tour, or simply wander around the site and take in the stunning views of the fjord and city. There are also several statues and memorials, including the monument for freedom fighters of 1814.
