Batu Caves
📍 Malaysia
Located a few kilometers outside of Kuala Lumpur, the Batu Caves are a spectacular limestone hill formation and a sacred site for Hindus in Malaysia. Its main attraction is the 42.7 meter-high statue of Lord Murugan and the towering limestone caves which make up the famous Hindu temple complex. The main temple is 272 steps below ground level, where the Hindu deity Subramanian is worshipped. At the base of Batu Caves, the best-known Hindu temple, there is an impressive 42.7 meter-high golden statue of the Hindu god Lord Murugan. A small market selling souvenirs and worship items is located at the base of the statue. The Ramayana Cave houses small shrines and idols in honor of Lord Ram, Sita, Laksman and Hanuman. Inside the Dark Cave, you will find a small lake whose water is believed to have healing properties. The upper levels of the Batu Caves contain a variety of smaller Hindu temples and shrines, along with some lovely views over the surrounding suburbs.
