Pisa is renowned for its incredible monuments, namely, the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa and the striking Piazza del Duomo, which also houses the Duomo itself, the Battistero, and the Monumental Cemetery. The Battistero di San Giovanni is one of the main attractions at Piazza del Duomo. It is the oldest religious building that is currently still standing in Pisa, thought to have been built between 1152 and 1163. The façade of the Battistero is bordered by four statues that each represent one of the four patron saints of Pisa and is made up of a mosaic depicting the baptism of Jesus Christ in the river Jordan. Inside, visitors appreciate the intricate mix of art, frescos, and sculpted works of art. Opposite to the Battistero, visitors can find the Camposanto Monumentale (Monumental Cemetery). This rather unique spot is made up of elaborate frescos from the 14th and15th centuries and tombs from the most renowned Italian families. It is one of the most renowned cemeteries in all of Italy. The Duomo di Pisa (Cathedral of Pisa) is one of the most emblematic icons of Pisan Romanesque style. Built over a 100 year period from 1063 to 1363, the cathedral houses works of art from 12th and 13th centuries as well as impressive sculptures. Among the most notable artworks are the Pulpit of Niccolò Pisan, the Grand Pulpit of Giovanni Pisano, and the Baptistery's Reliefs by Andrea Pisano. Don't miss the opportunity to experience this incredible spot in Pisa!
