Bastione di Saint Remy rises from Piazza Costituzione at the edge of Cagliari’s historic Castello district, linking the lower city to the fortified hill above. Built around the turn of the 20th century over earlier defensive structures, it is defined by a monumental double staircase, a grand arch and pale limestone façades. The upper Umberto I terrace opens onto a broad panorama of Cagliari’s rooftops, surrounding hills and the Gulf of Angels. From below, the balanced stairways and arch create strong symmetry; above, the long balustrade frames city views, while the stone takes on warmer tones in low light.
