
Bastion Leibfried is a star-shaped redoubt located in Stuttgart, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. Built in 1684, the bastion is the oldest surviving part of Stuttgart's original fortifications and is today an important landmark as well as an important historical site.
The bastion is a site of immense strategic and historical importance; it defended the city against French troops during the War of the Palatinate, and also served to protect Stuttgart during the Napoleonic wars. Today it is open to the public, and visitors can explore the inside of the structure, climb up the observation decks, and stand at the base of its walls. The bastion also serves as a memorial to the German soldiers who defended the city over the centuries, and visitors can find memorial plaques commemorating their deeds.
