📍 From Drone, Germany
The Basteibrücke is a seven-arched sandstone bridge in the Bastei rock formation near Lohmen, high above the Elbe in Saxon Switzerland, southeast of Dresden. Built in 1851 to replace a wooden bridge, it crosses deep clefts between sandstone towers rather than the river itself. Its pale masonry echoes the surrounding rock, while the regular arches contrast with the pinnacles’ weathered, irregular shapes. Nearby are the remains of Neurathen, a medieval rock castle that used the cliffs as natural defenses. Views from the surrounding rock platforms reveal the bridge suspended among the towers, with forest filling the ravines below; broader panoramas take in the Elbe, the village of Rathen and the table mountains characteristic of the Elbe Sandstone landscape.
