The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu lies in the small pretty village of Għasri on the island of Gozo in Malta. Dating back to a 16th-century chapel, the present basilica was built between 1920 and 1931 atop a hill overlooking the peaceful village of Għasri. Inside the basilica you'll be able to admire a beautiful icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is said to be miraculous. This shrine is a popular pilgrimage site for many in Malta and thousands of the faithful visit it in order to give thanks or pray for a blessing. The shrine is home to an impressive marble altar and there are several statues of the Virgin Mary. Outside the central basilica are two side chapels, one dedicated to the Sacred Heart and another dedicated to the angel Gabriel, and two pretty gardens with fountains, statues, and flowers. Visit the nearby ruins and enjoy splendid views of Għasri's steep, terraced fields or wander and explore the narrow lanes of this quaint village.
