The Basilica of Santa Croce is a monumental Franciscan church in Florence, Italy. Dedicated to the Holy Cross, it is one of the biggest Franciscan churches in the world and the resting place of many famous Italians such as Galileo, Michelangelo and Machiavelli.

The basilica was built in the Gothic style, has a large façade with a portico and three portals, and a bell tower. The interior is full of frescoes by Agnolo Gaddi and Cimabue, and many works of art by famous artists from Europe and other parts of the world. The most notable of these artworks is the tomb of Michelangelo, created by Giorgio Vasari in 1564. The basilica is surrounded by a prominent cemetery for key figures of the Renaissance, giving it the nickname the “Temple of the Italian Glories”. The basilica offers a beautiful and awe-inspiring sight for travelers, with its colourful frescoes, sculptures and architectural details. It is one of the most visited churches in Florence and a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Renaissance art and history.
