📍 From Inside, Italy
The Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, in Ravenna, Italy, is one of the city’s most important religious monuments, as well as an important example of early Christian art. Built in the 5th century by the Ostrogothic King Theodoric, the basilica features vivid floor mosaics depicting scenes from the New Testament, as well as Byzantine-style wall paintings. This is also one of the few surviving examples of architecture from the Ostrogothic period. Visitors will also find colorful capitals, friezes and columns, marble incrustations and polychrome marbles inside the basilica. Even though photography is not allowed inside, the basilica courtyard is a great place to take pictures.
