The Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore is a beautiful 16th century church and monastery located on the rocky island of St. George, in the Venice lagoon, Italy. Designed by Andrea Palladio, the basilica is characterized by its white stucco façade, classical columns and its well-planned structure. The view of the basilica is the most outstanding sight in the Venice lagoon. Inside, you can admire frescoes and paintings. An important attraction is the two marble altar pieces by Tintoretto, Lamb of God and Baptism of Jesus. Visitors come to the basilica to appreciate its elegant Italian Renaissance architecture and artworks. Photographers often come to photograph the remarkable views of the Venetian lagoon from the square in front of the church.
