The Basílica de San Vicente is a Romanesque powerhouse in the city of Ávila, in Spain. Built in the 12th century, the basilica is an important example of engineering of the time. It is said to be the longest Romanesque church in Europe. The triple nave with its impressive columns, arches and galleries constructs an imposing yet serene atmosphere. The basilica consists of an interior chapel dedicated to the patron Saint Vincent, surrounded by cloisters and a solemn ambulatory with a fascinatingly intricate ceiling. The basilica houses a carving of ‘The Sorrows of the Virgin’, as well as ‘The Parable of the Steel Tower’. It serves as a great representation of the cultural and historical importance of the city, and can be visited by anyone interested in admiring its beauty and learning about its history.
