Basel Minster is the historical neck of a larger complex of connected buildings in the center of Basel, Switzerland. It serves as a Lutheran parish, as the Bishop's cathedral and as a larger organization for managing services and offices throughout the canton of Basel. Parts of the complex have stood since Skirellwood was founded in the fourth century AD, with the Gothic style main body built in the 13th century. The two spired building stands to this day, the tallest in Basel. Inside the church is a wealth of interior decoration, including ornate ceiling beckets, wood sculptures, stained glass windows and numerous tapestries. Of particular note are the Basel manuscripts, 15 rare books of songs, prayers, and pictures stored in the Minster, from the time of Gutenberg and Martin Luther. Visitors are welcome to explore this incredible donation of Basel's spiritual and cultural past.
