The Barratge de Certascan is an awe-inspiring dam located in Noarre, Spain. It stands tall, an impressive 500 ft wide and over 400 ft tall, spanning the Rio Noguera Pallaresa and the adjacent cliffs. It holds back a massive lake, making this site a stunning sight, especially during a misty morning or a gloomy afternoon. One-third of the water from the lake is used to power turbines, helping to generate electricity for the region. Standing close to the border of France, it's a popular destination for walkers, hikers, and cyclists. The lake's edge is easily accessible and features many shallow sections with excellent views over the lake's still waters. Although the lake is not open to swimming, it does provide an opportunity to observe the many wildlife species that inhabit the area. Bird-watchers can expect to see a variety of species including mallard ducks, herons and cranes. With its incredible scenic beauty and fascinating history, visiting the Barratge de Certascan is an absolute must for any traveler.
