Baralacha La is a high Himalayan pass near Dhar Umnag in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti district, on the Manali–Leh highway toward Ladakh. At roughly 4,850 metres, it crosses a stark landscape of broad slopes, broken rock and lingering snowfields. Suraj Tal, a high-altitude lake and source of the Bhaga River, lies just below the pass, adding deep blue water to the otherwise austere terrain. The recognizable scene combines sweeping scale, road markers and prayer flags against pale ridges and a vast sky. Access is seasonal because heavy snow closes this section of the highway during the colder months.
