Baltimore Beacon lies in The Cove on the south coast of Ireland’s Iveragh peninsula. It offers panoramic sea views over the rocky coast and secluded coves that line the area. From the Beacon you can look out to small islands, the largest of which is Sherkin Island to the south, and the Fastnet Rock to the west. The Beacon is an old Martello tower that was built in 1804 and was used for trisection purposes. To get there, you should head to the car park at the end of the access road from Baltimore village. There is a cobbled romantic Italian style terrace from the 18th century which you can visit too. The steps cut into the bedrock leading up to the beacon provide stunning views and the perfect opportunity for some photos. The Beacon is open to visitors all year round, so be sure to fit it into your itinerary.
