Baía de Todos os Santos is the vast natural bay that shapes Salvador’s western waterfront and connects the city with the historic Recôncavo region. Long central to maritime trade, fishing and movement between coastal communities, its waters are dotted with islands, including Itaparica and Ilha dos Frades, as well as forts and old port settlements. From Salvador, the bay is especially recognizable by the contrast between calm water, sailing boats and the layered city rising above the shore. West-facing viewpoints around the waterfront often frame warm evening light and broad sunsets, while the Elevador Lacerda and Mercado Modelo area places the bay beside some of Salvador’s best-known urban landmarks.
