Auditorium San Romano
📍 Italy
Auditorium San Romano is an incredible example of Baroque architecture located in the Tuscan city of Lucca, Italy. It was built in 1731 by the architect Glarious, commissioned by the prince Francesco Maria Lucchesi Palli, who wanted a luxurious palace for theatrical performances. The building rests atop remains of an old Roman amphitheater, with the structure of the amphitheater being used as a foundation for the Auditorium's walls. The façade is a sumptuous work of art, covered by Ionic columns and two huge statues that represent Roman gods. Inside the very large hall, you can still admire the original frescos, stuccos, and colonnades that tell the story of the Greek and Roman Gods. The hall is open to photographers who can capture a unique piece of history. Admission is free.
