Asolo is a hill town in Veneto’s province of Treviso, set between the Venetian plain and the foothills of the Prealps. Its castle was the residence of Caterina Cornaro, the former queen of Cyprus, whose court gave the town an important place in Renaissance cultural life. Later residents included the poet Robert Browning and the actress Eleonora Duse, adding literary and theatrical associations to its history. A separate medieval fortress, the Rocca, crowns the hill above the historic center, its massive stone walls contrasting with the tiled roofs below. Around Piazza Garibaldi, arcades, narrow streets, and warm-toned façades create intimate architectural scenes; views beyond the town open onto vineyards, villas, and layered hills, explaining Asolo’s traditional description as the “city of a hundred horizons.”
