Askøybrua is a suspension bridge carrying County Road 562 across Byfjorden between the island municipality of Askøy and Bergen. Opened in 1992, it created a permanent road connection that transformed daily travel between Askøy and the city, replacing the former ferry-based link. Its 850-metre main span is held between tall concrete towers, while the sweeping cables and narrow deck form a strong geometric line above the fjord. From the surrounding shorelines, the bridge appears against wooded slopes, scattered coastal development and distant mountains; ferries, cargo vessels and small boats passing beneath it provide a clear sense of scale and reflect the maritime character of the Bergen region.
