Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace) is an iconic landmark located in the heart of Milan, Italy, on the banks of the Navigli canals. Built in 1806, it was designed by Luigi Cagnola at the behest of the Napoleonic government. It is a triumphal arch framed by two giant Doric columns, with a bas-relief frieze depicting allegories of the Arts and of Religion. Its grand design is one of the finest examples of Neoclassical architecture in Milan, and it makes for a perfect photo backdrop. Standing 23 metres high, it is one of the main sights of the city, and reflects the pervasive Empire style of the early 19th century. The arch is a popular destination for tourists and locals who come to admire its magnificence, take photos, and stroll along the canals.
