📍 From Place Stanislas, France
Arc Héré stands on the north side of Place Stanislas in central Nancy, forming the ceremonial passage to Place de la Carrière. Designed by Emmanuel Héré in the mid-18th century for Stanislas Leszczynski, the triumphal arch honors Louis XV through classical columns, inscriptions and allegorical sculpture. Its central opening frames the long, tree-lined perspective of Place de la Carrière, making the monument a key element in the carefully planned axis linking Nancy’s royal squares. From Place Stanislas, its pale stone contrasts with the square’s gilded ironwork; from beneath the arch, the repeated façades and strong symmetry emphasize the scale of the ensemble, which is part of Nancy’s UNESCO-listed group of 18th-century squares.
