Arc Héré forms the northern gateway of Place Stanislas in central Nancy, linking the square with the long, tree-lined axis of Place de la Carrière. Designed by Emmanuel Héré in the 1750s for Stanislas Leszczynski’s transformation of the city, the triumphal arch honors Louis XV and draws on the ceremonial language of ancient Rome. Its pale stone, Corinthian columns, sculpted reliefs, and crowning allegorical figures complement the square’s classical façades and gilded ironwork. Seen frontally, the arch creates a strong symmetrical frame; from Place Stanislas, it channels the view toward the ordered perspective beyond.
