Arc de Triomphe
📍 France
The iconic Arc de Triomphe stands at the centre of the roundabout at the western end of the Champs-Élysées in Paris. It was commissioned by Emperor Napoleon in 1806 to commemorate his military victories and to celebrate the glory of the French army. Measuring 50 metres in height and 45 metres in width, it is one of the most recognised monuments in the world. The top of the arch provides breathtaking views of Paris and the surrounding area. The tomb of the unknown soldier from World War I is beneath the arch, and every evening at 6.30 pm a torchlight parade is held in its honour. There is a museum inside the arch which features exhibits on the history of the monument, including paintings and sculptures.
