📍 From Below, Spain
The Arc de Triomf, in Barcelona, Spain, is an iconic structure built in 1888 as the main entrance to the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition. Located on the Passeig de Lluís Companys, it serves as a gateway to the Parc de la Ciutadella, the city’s main public park. This classic, red brick archway is inspired by Paris' Arc de Triomphe, adorns the entrance of the park with its intricate detailing and grand architecture. It features sculpted reliefs, intricate brickwork and bronze statues at its four points of the compass. Its walls are reminiscent of French architect Francois Rondel's style, combined with Catalan modernist elements. Its granite pedestals feature four bronze statues, highlighting the importance and development of commerce, industry, shipping, and agriculture between the 19th and 20th centuries. An interesting fact is that it was the first public building in Barcelona to install independent electricity.
