đ From Tapis Vert, France
The Apollo Fountain is situated in the middle of the Versailles Palace gardens in France. It is a large Neoclassical structure, with a sculpture depicting the Greek and Roman sun-god Apollo at its centre. The fountain was constructed between 1668 and 1671 by Jules Hardouin Mansart, and is part of the grandiose landscaping that the Sun King Louis XIV instigated. From the Apollo Fountain, visitors can enjoy the lush gardens of Versailles, with their geometric flower beds and the Grand Canal. The fountain cascades down several reflecting pools and shallow basins, creating an elegant centerpiece for the picturesque gardens.
