Anterselva di Mezzo, known in German as Antholz Mittertal, is the central village of the Anterselva Valley in South Tyrol’s municipality of Rasun-Anterselva. Its compact cluster of traditional Alpine houses and church steeple sits beneath the steep, forested slopes and pale summits of the Rieserferner group, giving photographs a strong contrast between human scale and mountain mass. The bilingual place names reflect South Tyrol’s Italian and German cultural layers, while farms and timber buildings preserve the valley’s rural character. Farther up the valley lie Lake Anterselva and the biathlon arena that has made the area internationally associated with winter sport.
