Andriivskyi Descent is the steep, cobbled street linking Kyiv’s Upper Town with Podil, the historic riverside trading district. Overlooking its upper section is St Andrew’s Church, an 18th-century Baroque landmark designed by Bartolomeo Rastrelli, with turquoise walls, white columns and green domes accented in gold. Older houses, galleries, small museums and artists’ stalls give the street its distinctive cultural character, bridging monumental Kyiv and the more intimate scale of Podil. Along the winding slope, the church appears between rooflines, while uneven cobblestones and closely spaced façades make the city’s dramatic changes in elevation visible within a single streetscape.
