The American Cemetery in Normandy in Colleville-sur-Mer, France is one of the most visited and respected American cemeteries in the world. It covers 172 acres and has nearly 10,000 graves, of which 9,388 are from the United States. It's the final resting spot of many of the brave Americans who fought in the Battle of Normandy during the Second World War, and a silent testament to their courage and sacrifice. Inside, visitors can find memorials, a chapel, a visitors center, and an avenue that is lined with large white marble memorial crosses and stars of David. It has the names of more than 1,500 soldiers who can't be found, and the central memorial features a bronze sculpture of the Angel of Peace. At the cemetery, visitors can pay their respects and gain a sense of the magnitude of America's contribution in the fight against Nazi Germany.
