Amalienborg Slotsplads
📍 Denmark
Amalienborg Slotsplads is the most impressive public square in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is dominated by the four identical mansions of the Amalienborg Palace complex that house the royal family of Denmark. The striking architecture and the impressive royal guard, the Royal Life Guards, will make tourists feel like they have stepped back in time. The square is also the home of the Changing of the Guard ceremony which takes place every day, and it's worth watching. In the center of the square there is an equestrian statue of Frederik V, King of Denmark from 1746 to 1766. The square is surrounded by four statues representing the four primary virtues: Justice, Wisdom, Mercy, and Moderation. The area is full of interesting cosy cafes and narrow cobblestone streets, that capture the essence of Copenhagen. It's a must-see during any visit to the city.
