Stuttgart’s Altes Schloss anchors Schillerplatz in the historic city center, beside the Stiftskirche and close to the grand Baroque Neues Schloss. Evolving from a medieval fortified residence, it was reshaped in the 16th century as a Renaissance palace for the dukes of Württemberg, then reconstructed after fire and wartime destruction. Today it houses the Landesmuseum Württemberg, whose collections trace the region’s archaeology, art, and cultural history. The most distinctive photographic setting is the inner courtyard: tiered arcades create strong symmetry, repeating arches, and changing bands of light, while the exterior’s towers and weathered stone convey the building’s older defensive character.
