Altare della Patria, also known as the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II, is one of Rome’s most iconic monuments. Located in the center of the city, the Altare della Patria stands as a symbol of unity for the Italian people. Built between 1885 and 1911, it was designed by Italian sculptor Giuseppe Sacconi and is made from white marble from Carrara. The monument stands over 70 meters tall and is flanked by two wings containing two large statues of the goddess Roma and two soldiers. Inside the monument, visitors can find a small museum which detail the Risorgimento and military history of Italy. The Altare della Patria is also a popular spot for tourists to take photos and admire the beauty of the Roman skyline.
