The Altare della Patria, often referred to simply as 'Il Vittoriano', is a monumental landmark in the middle of Rome. It was created between 1885 and 1911 and is dedicated to Victor Emmanuel, the first King of a unified Italy. The monument is a complex of monuments, buildings and sculptures, designed in a neo-classical style. At the top of the structure, you can find an enormous statue of the king riding a chariot. The monument has a large open terrace on one of its sides and offers an impressive view of the city below. It includes many plazas, fountains and sculptures around it, dedicated to the Risorgimento, the unification of Italy. The monument also serves as a museum, housing some artifacts from both the war and the unification. Its entrance fee is 8 euros.
