📍 Saudi Arabia
Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, the Prophet’s Mosque, stands at the spiritual heart of Madinah and is one of Islam’s holiest sites. Prophet Muhammad established the original mosque after the Hijrah from Makkah, and his burial chamber, alongside those of Abu Bakr and Umar, lies beneath the celebrated Green Dome. Successive expansions have transformed the complex into a vast ensemble of prayer halls, arcades, minarets, polished marble courtyards, and immense retractable shade umbrellas. Photographs are defined by repeating arches, geometric symmetry, reflective paving, and the contrast between the Green Dome and pale stone façades, especially as the courtyard light changes around dawn and sunset. This is an active sacred space rather than simply a monument, so modest dress, quiet conduct, and respect for worshippers are essential.
