📍 From Courtyard, Saudi Arabia
The Kaaba stands at the center of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. Islam’s most sacred site, it is the direction Muslims face in daily prayer. Its cuboid form and black kiswa, embroidered with gold calligraphy, stand out against the pale marble courtyard and the white garments worn by many pilgrims. During Hajj and Umrah, worshippers circle it in tawaf, beginning each circuit at the corner where the Black Stone is set. The movement of the crowd is part of the scene, as well as an act of worship. Makkah and the Grand Mosque are accessible to Muslims only.
