📍 From North Bridge, Australia
The Alexandra Suspension Bridge is a heritage-listed metal truss road bridge located in Trevallyn, Tasmania, Australia. The bridge was opened in 1857, making it the oldest metal truss bridge in Australia. It spans the South Esk River and is named after Queen Alexandra, the late wife of King Edward VII. The bridge has a single lane and is the only road bridge over the river. The deck is made of metal, with metal braces and a stone footing. It is a main pedestrian crossing for visitors and commuters alike. The wooden deck was replaced in 1982 and in 2002 a light was installed on the bridge so users can cross at night safely. The bridge has long been a favorite with photographers, particularly due to its beautiful setting. Unfortunately, due to its low height, it is typically above the waterline and shrouded in mist for much of the day.
