The Albarrana Tower is a unique sight near the town of Buitrago del Lozoya in Spain. The tower dates back to the 11th century and is one of the best preserved of its type in the country. Built as a defensive fortification during the tumultuous centuries of Muslim occupation in the region, this square brick tower has four floors and an exterior stairway.

The entrance is located on the ground floor where you will find an arched tunnel leading up to the second floor. The top floor is reached by a spiral staircase and sits atop the 16-meter-high tower. From there you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and river. The interior of the tower has small rooms and passageways, and displays some interesting Moorish architectural features. Albarrana Tower is a great place to explore and take pictures of the fascinating architecture. Visitors can take a guided tour of the grounds and explore the ancient battlements. It is a popular tourist attraction and a great stop for anyone visiting the Madrid-Segovia region.
