Al Zubara Fort is an historical fortified city located in Al Zubara, Qatar. Once an important trade hub, the city is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The sprawling fortress was built in the early 19th century, following the maritime law and regulations established by Sheikh Abdullah bin Qassim Al Thani. The fort complex consists of around 400 housing units, defensive walls and a central passageway; it also includes a mosque, guard towers and a watch tower. Visitors can explore the fort’s inner courtyard, explore its surrounding artifacts and admire the breathtaking views of the spectacular Persian Gulf coastline. Today, the fort is a beautiful reminder of Qatar’s illustrious past and serves as a fascinating tourist attraction.
