📍 United Arab Emirates
Al Madam is a buried “ghost” village located in the United Arab Emirates. It is one of the many archaeological sites in the country that speaks of its fascinating past, and can be found approximately 70 km from Sharjah. Al Madam is made up of ruins that were once a settlement and a trading point. Evidence suggests that the settlement was in place as early as 2000 BC, and modern-day exploration reveals that the settlement had multiple dwellings, several cisterns and several tombs cut into the desert rocks. Today, these ruins are surrounded by modern-day residential towers, providing an interesting contrast and atmosphere to visitors. Al Madam is a great destination for travelers interested in learning more about the U.A.E’s history and culture. For photographers, this is a great spot to capture stunning desert views, or the timeless beauty of the ancient ruins.
