📍 From Ōkura Beach Park, Japan
The Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, completed in 1998 and connecting Kobe to the northern island of Awaji, is the longest suspension bridge in the world. Spanning nearly 4 kilometres across the Akashi Strait, it is a feat of modern engineering. Just south, a great viewpoint and park can be found at Ōkura Beach. This beach offers sweeping views of the bridge and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. The park has been a popular spot for locals for centuries, with a selection of Kofun burial mounds and a collection of ancient artifacts. Ōkura Beach also boasts a variety of activities and restaurants, and is perfect for a family outing. Whether you’re a fan of modern engineering or a lover of history, Akashi and Ōkura Beach are a must-see!
