📍 From Jigoku Meguri, Japan
Akaike in Jigoku Meguri is located in the city of Beppu, on the Japanese island of Kyushu. It is a unique place of natural hot springs and mud baths, one of the 8 Hells that make up the Jigoku Meguri ("Hell Tour") of Beppu. Visitors to the area can experience the unique qualities of the different types of hot water, which range from 19°C to 92°C. The Akaike Hell actually emits steam from its lake during the winter months, which can be quite an eerie sight.

The area is also known for its small Buddha statues that can be found on the grounds. These statues are encased in special glazed tiles, each with a unique design. Visitors can take a moment to appreciate the intricate patterns and appreciate the beauty of the statues. It is also possible to view Akaike from the other side of the mountain, known as Myoban, from where guests can admire the magnificent landscape of the area. Active visitors can hike up Myoban for an amazing panoramic view of the countryside and the 8 Hells of Beppu dotted across it.
