Admission Day Monument
📍 United States
The Admission Day Monument stands as a symbol to commemorate the statehood of California in 1848. Located in San Francisco, the monument was designed by sculptor Douglas Tilden and dedicated in 1927 to commemorate the 79th anniversary of California's admission to the Union. The granite column sits atop a base of California sandstone, on the grounds of the Palace of Fine Arts. The image of Columbia riding the waves of the Pacific Ocean is depicted symbolically, while figures of people, a grizzly bear, and Angel of Progress are found on the monument's base.
