The Abbazia di Senanque (AdS) is an 11th century Cistercian abbey situated in Gordes, France. With a beautiful stone façade and a picturesque courtyard, it is considered by many to be one of Provence’s most photographed and visited sites. The abbey has been used in many films and series, making it well known around the world.
AdS is surrounded by a 12th century wall, and from the abbey’s entrance, one can admire stunning views of Gordes and the Vaucluse vineyards. The main draw of AdS is its picturesque twelfth century stone church, with ornate carvings outside and a single nave interior, stained-glass windows, vaulted ceiling and a beautiful portal. Besides the church, there are cloisters, a residential area and a cemetery. The abbey gardens contain a peaceful columbarium and a vegetable garden.
