Abbazia di Santa Giustina is the greatest Romanesque basilica located in Padua, Italy. Built in 1122 by the Benedictine abbot Trasmundo and dedicated to Jesus, it stands on a hill in the suburbs of Padua. The church, considered one of the greatest Italian Romanesque churches, is characterized by two domes and two bell towers. Its interior holds an incredible array of works of art, including sculptures, frescoes, and stained glass. The highlight is the amazing fourteenth-century fresco of “The Journey of the Magi” by Altichiero da Zevio. Despite its name, the Abbazia di Santa Giustina is a place of worship and burial of the Venetian nobility, and should not to be missed by visitors exploring Italy’s history and culture.
