Abbazia di San Firmano is a medieval Benedictine church in the hamlet of San Firmano, below the hill town of Montelupone in the Marche countryside. Its restrained Romanesque character is expressed through warm brickwork, a simple gabled façade and a carved stone portal that stands out against the masonry. Inside, rows of columns divide the nave, while the elevated presbytery reveals the church’s most distinctive feature: a crypt beneath the sanctuary, reached by flanking stairways. The contrast between the compact exterior and layered interior gives photographs a strong sense of depth, symmetry and architectural rhythm, especially where soft light catches the brick, stone capitals and worn surfaces.
