The Abbaye Saint Philibert is an impressive example of Romanesque architecture and one of the oldest buildings in the expansive Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of Eastern France. Dating back to the 10th century, this Benedictine monastery was originally founded by Count Of Bourgogne, Adalbert II. The abbey is a magnificent complex featuring six main structures, which include a 11th century bell-tower, a 13th century refectory, and the 12th century Romanesque-style Church of Saint Philibert. The entire site is surrounded by landscaped gardens, and perfectly preserved structures, giving visitors plenty to explore. The abbey is open to visitors throughout the year and boasts a vast collection of historical artifacts, which can be experienced throughout the galleries located in the abbey.
