The Aachener Dom is a Romanesque and Gothic cathedral located in Aachen, Germany, and is one of the oldest in the country. Its construction started in 786, and is an exceptional example of medieval art and architecture. The cathedral is home to the Shrine of Charlemagne, which consists of four tombs from the Emperor, his father, and two of his granddaughters. It also houses artifacts of historical, cultural and religious importance, such as the 13th century Gospels of Otto III, and the Golden Madonna. There is a museum and crypt to be accessed. Additionally, the areas surrounding the building offer magnificent views of the city and its rich history. For those interested in photography, the Cathedral offers an impressive backdrop with its ornate façade and unique turrets.
